In 1981 Wally Horodnyk became an equal partner in a company that provided freight brokerage services to thousands of companies throughout North America. The business grew rapidly from $750,000 to over $10,000,000 in just 5 years. Wally was approached by one of his sales staff and asked if he could facilitate the movement of 1 car from Flint, Michigan to Toronto, Ontario. Wally was curious about moving this particular car so he borrowed a single vehicle trailer and used his personal Ford F250 to complete the move. TFX International Specialized Vehicle Transport was born.
Once Wally and his sales staff got the word out, inquiries increased 400 fold. He realized there weren’t any businesses in Canada dedicated to exclusively moving cars. As a car buff, this line of work fell perfectly into his personal area of interest. Wally purchased a Ford F350 and a 2-car aluminium trailer followed closely by a used, 48-foot, 6-car trailer with a tailgate lift. From 1988 to 1996, the division continued to grow slowly, increasing to a 5-truck, 5-trailer operation. In 1996, Jacqui Macnally took over the day-to-day operations and the company quickly showed its potential as an industry leader.
1998 saw a huge change. Wally became disenchanted with the freight broker business and saw his passion lay in building a world class vehicle transport company. After careful consultation with his wife Christine, Wally decided to concentrate exclusively on moving vehicles. TFX was no longer just a division of another company. It was an exciting new beginning.
Wally, his wife Christine, Jacqui and a small group of carefully selected staff and drivers (most of whom are still with TFX) set out to prove to the vehicle shipping world that a Canadian company could become a major player in the North American auto transport market.
Sales quickly grew along with the fleet size. TFX’s commitment to designing and purchasing the finest equipment coupled with intense driver training and excellent customer service proved to be the perfect formula. TFX now has the largest fleet of enclosed auto transporters in Canada and is indeed one of the leading auto transport companies in Canada and throughout North America.
Wally’s son Adam grew up in the business and began spending summers at the shop from the age of 14. In 2005, at the age of 21, Adam joined the TFX team full time. Jacqui retired in 2012 and Adam was promoted to Vice President. Adam brought new vision and a youthful exuberance to the management team. With his promotion of Kendra Ledrew to Dispatch Manager and Jason Blunt to Operations Manager, the company continued to move forward.
The tradition of hardworking, knowledgeable and reliable management personnel who care about customers remains true to this day. The new generation continues to exhibit the intense work ethic and dedication that brought TFX to the forefront of the industry. New and innovative ideas are constantly being researched and implemented.
As the son of Ukrainian immigrants who came to this country with nothing, I have worked hard my entire life. With TFX, I have had an opportunity to strive to be the best in a very unique industry. I have made it my life’s goal to build the best specialized vehicle transport company in the world. From day one, I have wanted TFX to be the company people look to when moving vehicles that are important enough to worry about. I know how hard it is to earn money. I work 7 days a week, all year, every year which is why, whether it is your personal pickup truck or a 10 million dollar vintage Ferrari, I make sure we treat each vehicle with the respect it deserves.
I thought I would share this with you. It is a true “feather” in your hat. Hi, the driver was very gentle with the cars. As a matter of fact, he is an old car lover, and we got along very well. Putting the Buick® on top was fun. The ground was snow and ice, and the ramp was metal and slippery when the tires carried snow onto it. I drove the Buick® onto the r..
