A brief history of Maserati

The Maserati brothers founded the company in 1914 in Bologna, Italy. They started out as a highly successful race car manufacturer. In 1947, they began a new chapter with the release of their first passenger car, the elegant A6 Grand Tourer. From then on, Maserati was dedicated to making luxurious high-performance vehicles.

Some of Maserati’s most famous models include the 3500 GT, which debuted in 1957, the Quattroporte, launched in 1963, and the Ghibli coupé, launched in 1967.

Today, Maserati is part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. It’s one of the company’s two luxury marques along with Alfa Romeo. The automaker is making big waves. The new Ghibli is a product of the collaborative environment at Fiat Chrysler. It combines a V6 engine built at the Ferrari factory, the Uconnect infotainment system from the Dodge Charger and the steering column from the Chrysler Town & Country. However, it remains true to its Maserati roots in most particulars, especially with its emphasis on luxury, elegance and high performance.

The Levante also benefits from a Ferrari engine (V6 and V8). While it packs 590 horsepower and can go from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds, it’s an exceptionally smooth ride.

What’s next for Maserati?

Maserati has a lot coming up in 2019, 2020 and beyond. The marque is putting a strong focus on electric car technology. CEO Harald Wester has said that every new Maserati product will have “significant electrification.”

You can expect new vehicle launches in each of the next three years. This includes the introduction of the Alfieri, a coupe with a convertible variant, which will be offered as a plug-in hybrid. It charges three times faster than a Tesla Supercharger and goes to 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 2 seconds.
