What we know about the Porsche Taycan so far

Porsche is finally releasing the electric vehicle they’ve been teasing since 2015. Set to give the Tesla Model S some competition, this car won’t be unveiled until September 2019, but here’s what we know so far.
Performance
When the 4-seater sports car arrives on the market, it’ll be available with power outputs of 402 hp, 536 hp and 670 hp. The most powerful model will be capable of going from 0-100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of more than 250 km/h.
Porsche will also be offering the supercar with at least two different battery pack capacities, 80 kWh and 95 kWh. The larger battery will reportedly have a range of 480 km.
Interior
Porsche is remaining secretive about its new car until the official unveiling next month, but a journalist who had the chance to take the wheel says that the interior “is a tasteful blend of familiarity and gradual evolution of screen technology.”
Pricing
There’s no official pricing available for the Taycan, but Robert Meier, the complete vehicle model line director for the Taycan, has said that it will be priced somewhere between the manufacturer’s Cayenne and Panamera vehicles, which start at $76,000 and $99,000 respectively.
Other reports show that the electric sportscar will start at $90,000 USD and climb higher than $130,000 USD for the “turbo” model, which will be capable of the highest speeds and longest range.
Working on their own charging network
Along with their new electric car, Porsche is also working on their own super-charging network. These ultra-fast, 800-volt chargers should be able to provide almost 400 km of range in as little as 15 minutes.
The car should also be compatible with 400-volt superchargers and the smaller, more widespread chargers. It’ll just take a little longer to get a full charge.
Over 30,000 preorders already
While the Taycan won’t be available for order for another month, Porsche has already received 30,000 preorders worldwide. That’s 50 per cent more than the manufacturer’s original first year run target of 20,000 vehicles.
